Hi Ilana. I didn't mean to say that there is ONLY good writing and bad, nor do I think one has to do their best writing on Substack--it is in many ways a place to work things out while connecting with an audience.
I mean that there is A LOT of dross--AI-generated writing, bots, trolls, cynical takes, racism, etc.--to muck through in order to find the thoughtful, interesting, good writing here. In many ways, that is just the nature of the internet, I know. But this place has changed, not for the better, and I think it's because of the refusal of those who run the place to prioritize writers.
On the other hand, I use this platform for free. So I'll just be over here yelling at the kids to get off my lawn. (But not really; I love kids.)
